Small | Barnacled Tidal Pool Necklace | #15
Small | Barnacled Tidal Pool Necklace | #15
Lodolite is a variety of quartz with inclusions of chlorite, iron and calcite. These minerals can be seen as plumes in the colorless stone with green, pink, yellow, brown, white and red. It is often called garden quartz or scenic quartz because it looks like a mossy covered miniature garden.
To me, lodolite often looks like the Maine Atlantic tidal pools with their plumes of algae and the rippling clear water. So I wanted to make something that reminded me of the ocean.
This necklace is made from a stunning natural, lodolite quartz gemstone that little sterling barnacles dotted around the bezel.
I wanted them to look perhaps a bit rusty and have the finish be more irregular, like waves had rolled them around rocks and sand and you just stumbled upon them at the beach.
So I tumbled them just enough to pull away a bit of the top oxidation on the bottom rims, as opposed to leaving them a deep black how I usually do. They look like tiny treasures pulled from the ocean, chipped and worn, beautiful and organic.
