Lodolite is a variety of quartz with inclusions of chlorite, iron and calcite. These minerals can be seen as plumes in the colorless stone with green, pink, yellow, brown, white and red. It is often called garden quartz or scenic quartz because it looks like a mossy covered miniature garden.
To me, lodolite often looks like the Maine Atlantic tidal pools with their plumes of algae and the rippling clear water. So I wanted to make something that reminded me of the ocean.
This necklace is made from a stunning natural, lodolite quartz gemstone that is set in a tall pronged bezel. The back has been textured to look like soft waving sea grass. It has been oxidized gently buffed to reveal highlights.

To create my antiqued pieces, the sterling silver is oxidize until dark gray. Oxidation is a process that happens over time naturally to sterling silver. Then the piece is brushed and polished until the highlights are lighter and the lowlights are darkened. But this oxidization is not permanent, and will fade in the areas that rub, and stay dark in the recesses. The patina will change over time, making your piece unique to you.
